Lapwing

Run.
Walk.
Repeat.

Want a simple running timer? Just getting back into running? Lapwing tells you when to run and when to walk, so you can stop doing sums in your head and just go.

Setting the run dial to two minutes and the walk dial to one minute
A run in progress, the bezel dial counting down the current run interval
The route of a finished run, drawn in brass where you ran and steel where you walked
A finished run broken into its intervals, with distance and pace for each one
The home screen: totals for the week, the three most recent runs, and a start button

The whole idea

Run two minutes. Walk one. Repeat.

Run/walk is how most people get back to running without getting hurt. The hard part is remembering to switch. Lapwing does the remembering: set two dials, put the phone in your pocket, and listen. A chime and a buzz tell you when to run and when to ease off. You never have to look at it.

Two ways to run

Timed, or by feel.

Intervals

You pick the run and walk lengths, and the clock flips between them until you stop. This is the one to use if you are following a plan or building back up.

Free

No timer. Run until you want a break, tap Walk, tap Run when you are ready again. Some days you do not want to be told what to do.

Where you went

A map that shows the walking too.

Your route is drawn in two colours: brass for the stretches you ran, steel for the stretches you walked. It is an honest picture of the run, and after a few weeks the brass starts taking over. Distance and pace come along with it.

Afterwards

Split by interval, not by kilometre.

Everyone else splits your run per kilometre. That tells you nothing when you are stopping to walk every two minutes. Lapwing logs each run and each walk as its own line with its own distance and pace, so you can see how run 3 compared with run 11, and scrub back through the whole thing.
